Our Community

Foster parents, kinship caregivers and adoptive families of children in foster care have unique insights on caring for abused and neglected children. LAPP encourages caregivers to come together to share information, experiences and suggestions for successfully navigating the child welfare system. Finding support and practical solutions to common challenges allows those caring for children to effectively meet their needs.

Many areas in California and throughout the nation offer support groups and other services for caregiver families. LAPP encourages participation in these groups and provides a listing of support groups and organizations in California for your convenience.

Although foster and kinship families play a critical role in ensuring successful futures for children in foster care, information on the experiences of real caregiver families is not easily accessible.  LAPP provides information from data collections and research reports on caregiver characteristics as well as real life profiles of families caring for children living apart from their parents in foster care.
